Confidence doesn't come first -- courage does. And all it took was a 35lb kettlebell to remind me of this truth.

For months this kettlebell felt impossible.

At the beginning of the year, I got back into regular workouts after a long, unexpected hiatus.

During the Fall, my life was turned upside down. My family was displaced, our routines disappeared, and stress took a toll--not just on my body, but on my mind.

When I finally got back into my workouts, that 35lb kettlebell sat there, almost taunting me. I used to swing it effortlessly, but now? I wasn't sure I'd ever get back to that milestone.

But today I picked it up. I didn't feel ready. It was hard. My muscles burned and doubt crept in. But I did it.

And as I set it down, I realized -- this was about more than fitness.

It was a reminder of how progress works. How we rebuild after setbacks. How confidence isn't something we magically wake up with. It's built through action.

This is exactly what happens in public speaking (in the boardroom, networking room or on the stage).

So many women tell me, "I'll speak when I feel ready." But confidence doesn't come first -- courage does.

You have to try before you feel 💯 prepared. You take small wins--raising your hand in a meeting, introducing yourself with clarity, speaking up even when your voice shakes -- and those moments add up.

One day, the thing that once felt impossible is just part of what you do.

I woke up to 40 degree temps and felt so sad for my poor feet. Then I found these on the top shelf of my closet. 🎉

It's not even about the boots. It's about something familiar, something from "before", something comforting.

These boots sparked a spirit in me today.

🤔What do hurricane prep and speech prep have in common?

First, here are some things they have in common:

1. Both cause anxiety because you don't know except what will happen 🥴
2. Both require you to plan for multiple scenarios 🤪
3. You have advance warning of both events.🗓️
4. People respond differently to the same events/message and you can only control your own actions.

Second, how do you prep for this?

1. Use breathing techniques to calm your nerves. I'm a big fan of the box breathing technique but anything that requires slow, thoughtful breathing will help calm that nervous system and recenter you.🌬️
2. Prepare in advance. Don't wait until the night before to plan your speech or make your hurricane preparations. Time is your friend in both situations so take advantage. The more prepared you are the less anxious you'll feel. 🕦
3. Do something that you enjoy. When you're prepared in advance you have time to take a walk, spend time with a friend, help a neighbor with their preparations or anything else that takes the focus off of you. This helps you calm your nerves and build confidence, in both situations.💪

💭Think of something that feels just a little risky
👉Try a new food
👉Go to a new restaurant
👉 Talk to a stranger at the grocery store

It's going to be different for everyone.

The 🔑 is to push just past your comfort zone and realize that you did something you didn't think you could do.🎉

This helps you build confidence in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations like public speaking.💪

I am not advocating putting yourself in harms way mentally or physically, just finding little ways you can safely push yourself.

Some things past clients have done:
⏩Made social media reels
⏩Gone zip lining
⏩Spoken up at a team meeting
⏩Tried a good they'd never had before
⏩Worn a new color
